Conner Burnham

You will find my classes to be light-hearted, healing, spirited and invigorating. I enjoy teaching Vinyasa classes influenced by Anusara that incorporate a blend of asana, pranayama, meditation and Sanskrit chanting.

I am a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level. My initial training was in Vinyasa at Midtown Yoga in Memphis. Currently I am completing my 500 hour RYT and graduating from an intensive year long Anusara Immersion and teacher training at Butterfly Yoga in Jackson MS. I have been inspired by and studied with  Scotta Brady at Butterfly Yoga,  John Friend, Martin and Jordan Kirk, Betsy Downing, Bruce Bowditch. Jordan Bloom, Doug Keller, Chris Coniaris, and Sarla Nichols at Midtown Yoga.

My initial interest in yoga began when I met my guru Roy Eugene Davis in 1989 at the Center for Spiritual Awareness in Lakemont, Georgia. I was initiated into the ancient science of Kriya Yoga by Mr. Davis, who is a direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda. In 2003 I went on a spiritual pilgrimage to India and the Himalayas – further connecting with the roots of Kriya Yoga. I represent CSA as a Group Meditation Leader teaching meditation in the Kriya Yoga tradition as passed down to me from the lineage of Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Swami Sri Yukteswar, Paramahansa Yogananda, and Roy Eugene Davis.

My yoga practice began in 2001. I am passionate about yoga and love the fact that it addresses the whole person’s being including mind, body and spirit. Yoga promotes inner peace, compassion for self and others, mindfulness and clarity, and a connection to something greater than ourselves, however you define that. Yoga is not a religion, it is a lifestyle practice and philosophy. People of all faiths and religions can enjoy yoga.

My classes incorporate the fundamentals of hatha yoga with the alignment principles and philosophy of Anusara Yoga. The alignment based approach allows the body to safely settle more deeply into a pose and allows for greater opening in specific areas. Anusara yoga is “a celebration of the heart that looks for the good in all people and all things. All students of all levels of ability and yoga experience are honored for their unique differences, limitations, and talents.” It’s about cultivating positive energy.

I have studied with  John Friend, Martin and Jordan Kirk, Jordan Bloom, Betsy Downing, Bruce Bowditch, Doug Keller, Chris Coniaris, Scotta Brady and Simon Park. Scotta Brady, a certified Anusara instructor, is my hatha yoga teacher. I am completing my 200 hour Yoga Alliance certifiication under Scotta’s instruction at Butterfly Yoga in Jackson, MS.

I am also initiated into the Kriya Yoga tradition. I am blessed to study under the guidance of Roy Eugene Davis. Mr. Davis is the last living guru who is a directly descended disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda. Kriya Yoga offers an authentic path for awakening. It teaches us to embrace our true nature through meditation, pranayama and right action. My direct email address is: aspiritualjourney@hotmail.com
